Rock Stars of Innovation SummitCONNECT and Xconomy present the 2012 Rock Stars of Innovation Summit! In its fourth year, (previously known as The La Jolla Research & Innovation Summit) this invitation-only program will showcase the researchers, entrepreneurs and investors who are truly ROCK STARS in their fields to an audience of ~250 VCs, institutional investors, business and academic leaders. By attending, you'll be able to network with the all-star start-ups being backed by top VCs, gain new perspectives as A-list VCs interview celebrated San Diego scientists and have access to quick pitches of San Diego's top deals. Further, the meeting will kick-off with a Rock Star VC Jam Session and premier networking reception hosted by the renowned Bill Walton. Walton will host an evening of rock and roll starring The Chuck McDermott Band. McDermott is General Partner of RockPort Capital as well as having had a long-standing successful music career. Other VC rockers will be joining in throughout the evening including Jason Mendelson, Managing Director of Foundry Group, and member of the band Soul Patch. KEYNOTE Juan Enriquez, Managing Director, Excel Venture Management In the last 30 years, Juan Enriquez has overseen the rebuilding of the Mexican National Zoo, helped negotiate the Chiapas Peace Accords, delivered the first scholarly paper on mad cow disease to the UK's Royal Agricultural College, participated in a voyage to map biomass in the world's oceans, funded successful biotechnology startups and published a series of books that proved eerily accurate in their ability to predict economic and political trends. Enriquez is a TED rock star: he gave a prescient 2003 conference talk, "Decoding the future with genomics", and in 2011 was one of two guest TED curators, the first time anyone has held that honor.
